Mom, I want to be an artist and a scientist
February 11th: International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Gender equality is one of our core values in CNIO & The City activities. For the week of February 11, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we have organized the event: “Mom, I want to be an artist and a SCIENTIST” to inspire the youngest and make female STEAM role models visible. The event, which will take place in CNIO on Friday February 9th at 1:00pm. It will be a meeting-colloquium with the women involved in BINOMIO. Dialogues between Art and Science:
- Margarita Salas, a pioneering scientist who laid the foundations for molecular biology in Spain, honoured with the Santiago Ramón y Cajal National Research Award (1999).
- Eva Lootz, a recognised visual artist and winner of the National Plastic Arts Award (1994).
- Maria Blasco, director of CNIO and executive director.
and Mª Teresa García, the Permanent Seminar of Natural Sciences. Teacher Association representative. These women will talk about science, art, women, girls scientific vocations and how the education play an important role in them. After this, we will have some snacks to talk with these women in a more informal atmosphere.

What is BINOMIO. Dialogues between Art and Science?
The First Edition of the Exhibition Project BINOMIO, organised by the CNIO and the Banco Santander Foundation and with CNIO & The City support, aims to establish an exchange between two fields of knowledge and exploration of the physical and human world. Trying to find common ground between Art and Science.
For the occasion, Eva Lootz has made an audio-visual piece and a series of 59 drawings representing insights and reflections on Margarita Salas main lines of research. The artworks will remain exhibited until April 6 at the CNIO. Subsequently, the work will go on sale to raise funds for cancer research. [Know more…]
